Bilateral Relations

Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates having strong ties leads to the opening of the Embassy of Malaysia in Abu Dhabi in the year 1983 and follow suit the opening of the UAE Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in 1995.

 

Ties between the two countries has grown and developed rapidly resulting in increased of trade volume from a billion dollars in 2002 to 8.8 billion dollars in 2013, and the United Arab Emirates is the first trade partner of Malaysia in the West Asia region.

 

The UAE Malaysia Business Council was also established recently to promote and develop trade and investments relations between the two countries and held its first meeting in January 2013.

 

There are many agreements in the field of trade and investments encouraged between the two countries in addition to higher education and scientific research relations.

 

Recent years have seen many of the mutual official visits at the level of senior officials and the most recent visit of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed AL Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces to Malaysia in March 2013.  And the UAE Foreign Minister, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, met in Kuala Lumpur with Malaysian Foreign Minister, the Honourable Dato' Sri Anifah Hj Aman in 1st November 2014.  In addition to the visit of His Excellency Datuk Najib Tun Abdul Razak to the UAE in May 2014 and October 2014.

 

Malaysia hosts many of the students on scholarships from the United Arab Emirates to study in different desciplines such as management, accounting, engineering, law nd concentrated studies in the Master's and Doctoral degrees.

 

In the context of humanitarian work and charity, The Emirates Red Crescent provide assistance to the victims of the flood in Malaysia in December 2014 and 2013 also the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan humanitarian and charity work to support some of the most important programs and projects provide a number of teachers to teach Arabic and Islamic education in several Malaysian schools in addition to some other charitable projects.

 

Due to the mild tropical climate of Malaysia and the availability of tourists resorts and beautiful islands, it is considered as an important tourism destination in Southeast Asia for the citizens of the United Arab Emirates to visit Malaysia during the summer holidays.
